It’s officially crunch time in the 2019 WNBA season and nothing about the postseason is clear yet. We’re tracking every game, keeping a close eye on the standings and giving you day-to-day updates on how everything else happening around the league impacts the Lynx.

Lynx Standing: Sitting in the No. 8 seed with a record of 10-11. Two games ahead of the No. 9 Liberty, one game behind the No. 7 Storm.

Clinched: No teams
Eliminated: No teams

Last Night’s Games:

Sun Dominate Liberty On The Road

In case you weren’t aware, Courtney Williams can score. The Connecticut Sun held onto the No. 1 seed in the league, beating the New York Liberty 94-79 behind a 28-point outburst from Williams. The craziest part of Williams’ performance? She hit only one three and didn’t score a single point at the rim. Williams’ lethal midrange game was on full display as she went 11-of-16 from two-point range, picking apart New York’s defense and giving her team the victory.

The scariest thing about the Sun is how many players they have that can beat you. If it’s not Williams, it’s Jonquel Jones inside. If Jones has an off night, opponents need to worry about Shekinna Stricklen raining threes on them. The Sun still have a one-game lead on the Aces for the No. 1 seed and control their own destiny.

On the flip side, the Liberty are running out of time to turn things around. With a record of 8-13, they need to string a few wins together soon to have a realistic shot at the playoffs. That’s good news for the Lynx who are currently the team that would get knocked out if the Liberty made a run.

Sparks Hold Off Storm

The Sparks continue to hold steady right around the middle of the standings. While they’re sitting in the No. 4 seed right now, they could make a serious push with Candace Parker back and looking and Nneka Ogwumike playing some of the best basketball of her career. Winning games like their 83-75 victory over the Storm on Sunday helps that cause. The Sparks want to be thought of as legit finals contenders and to justify that position, they need to prove that they can beat teams below them in the standings consistently.

Seattle is a dangerous squad in their own right but while they are a good story and have showed remarkable grit this season, they will be fighting to make the playoffs. Any losses Seattle takes (even if it has to be by the hand of the hated Sparks) help the Lynx. Minnesota is just one game behind Seattle. It would be great to get out of the No. 8 seed.

Mercury Blow Out Mystics

Ask many a WNBA player, coach or media member and they’ll tell you that the surest bet to win the championship this year is the Mystics. However, the Mercury don’t want anyone to forget about them.

Though it’s been an interesting season down in Phoenix to say the least, there’s no questioning that the Mercury have legitimate talent and they showed that off on Sunday. Brittney Griner scored 26 points and added nine rebounds and eight assists as the Mercury beat the Mystics 103-82. Adding to the downpour of Mercury scoring were Leilani Mitchell and Yvonne Turner, who scored 23 and 22 points, respectively. While Mitchell and Turner are not typically the biggest contributors on the Mystics, having players step up is a big part of being a championship contender. The Mercury currently hold the No. 6 seed and are just a game ahead of the Lynx with a record of 10-11.

Despite the loss, there is no need for panic on the part of the Mystics. They are still one of the best teams in the league on both ends of the floor and boast a combination of size and shooting that makes them a nightmare to match up with. They are 14-7 on the season and hold the No. 3 seed.
