The Lynx’s fight for home court advantage got a little simpler on Thursday night.

With the Sparks beating the Storm, the Lynx now control their own destiny. If they win in Phoenix on Friday and in L.A. on Sunday, they will host a first-round playoff game.

That is easier said than done, certainly, but it’s better to be in the driver’s seat than watching other teams play and hoping for certain outcomes.

There are still several scenarios in play—the Lynx could play the Storm either on the road or at home and could host the Mercury if the Sky lose out and the Lynx win out. The most likely of those scenarios is a meeting with the Storm. If that’s the case, home court will be essential. The Storm have given the Lynx trouble this season.

However, looking too far ahead is always a trap. For now, Minnesota needs to focus on the game in front of it.
