Minnesota’s professional sports teams come together to encourage voting with #OneMN “Your Vote Matters” PSA

Minneapolis/St. Paul – The Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx announced its annual Pack the Vote initiative, a nonpartisan voter education platform aimed at increasing voter registration by providing voter resources and inspiring civic engagement in the local community and across the country.

“We are proud to work with our incredible Pack the Vote partners across the Twin Cities and surrounding area, promoting civic engagement and encouraging all to have their voices heard at the polls this upcoming Election Day,” said Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx Chief Impact Officer Jennifer Ridgeway.

Now in its fourth year, Pack the Vote provides ongoing programming to support Timberwolves and Lynx fans and the greater Twin Cities community to stay informed about local and national elections and encourage individuals to have their voices heard at the polls.

As part of this year’s programming, the Timberwolves and Lynx hosted a community conversation. Lynx legend Maya Moore Irons and her husband, Jonathan Irons, joined with advocacy groups, Darris Group, T.O.N.E. U.P Inc., and ACLU Minnesota on the importance of voting, the power of local engagement, and the impact that local government and policies have on individuals and communities.

In addition, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Lynx, ACLU Minnesota, League of Women Voters Minneapolis, partnered in the community to foster voter engagement and help individuals register to vote.

Leading up to Election Day, the organization will host Pack the Vote policy partners for the Timberwolves Oct. 26 game and Monday’s Nov. 4 game vs. Charlotte will be recognized as Pack the Vote Night. Timberwolves players will wear pro-voting pregame warmups, with in-arena digital campaigns encouraging fans to get out and vote. The NBA announced it will not schedule games on Election Day (Nov. 5) for the third consecutive year, as part of its league-wide effort to encourage and amplify civic engagement.

Additionally, Minnesota’s professional sports teams, including the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Wild, United and PWHL Frost collaborated on a community-wide “Your Vote Matters” PSA urging fans to find their polling place, register to vote, and to express their voice at the polls.

For the past three years, Pack the Vote has focused its efforts on raising awareness around Minnesota’s Restore the Vote bill (HF28), a bill aimed at restoring voting rights for formerly incarcerated citizens. Collectively working with area advocacy groups, including Minnesota Social Justice Research Center, All Square, ACLU Minnesota, T.O.N.E. U.P Inc., and the Darris Group, the bill was successfully signed into law on March 3, 2023, and went into effect June 2023, granting 50,000 Minnesotans the right to vote.
