The Athletic: Dangerfield, Reeve Making Case For Rookie, Coach Of The Year Awards

As WNBA teams hit the halfway mark in Bradenton, Fla., more and more media are coming out with their picks for the league’s year-end awards.

Minnesota rookie guard Crystal Dangerfield is once again highlighted as a frontrunner for the Rookie of the Year contest. Dangerfield is averaging 16 points and four assists a game, which has her at the front of her rookie class. Writes The Athletic’s Chantel Jennings of the UConn product:

“Her play is so strong at this point in the year that even if Sabrina Ionescu, Chennedy Carter and Satou Sabally — three players who got much more preseason ROY hype — were healthy, Dangerfield would still be in the conversation.”

Lynx Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve has been mentioned as a Coach of the Year candidate, which she’s earned twice in her career in 2011 and 2016. The Lynx have endured several injuries so far this season, and yet still hold strong in the top half of the standings. Writes Jennings:

“Minnesota has had four different starting lineups in 10 games and has yet to start the same lineup in three consecutive games. Yet Reeve has led the Lynx to a 7-3 record and fourth place in the league at the halfway point of the season.”

The Lynx return to action in Bradenton on Wednesday night versus the Dallas Wings.
