The Lynx close out their preseason against the New York Liberty at the Target Center on Monday night.
After suffering a tough loss to the Mystics last Wednesday morning, the Lynx are looking to rebound and end their preseason on a high note.
Lynx forward Maya Moore will look to regain her form after struggling in the preseason opener, shooting only 2-of-7 and scoring only seven points.
Meanwhile the Liberty will be looking to avoid a winless preseason for the second year in a row.
The Liberty suffered their second loss of the preseason last Wednesday to the Atlanta Dream, losing 85-72.
LAST MEETING
These two teams last faced each other on July 6, 2014 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Center Tina Charles led the way for the Liberty scoring 32 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing two assists. Former Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter scored 18 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Forward Maya Moore led the Lynx scoring 25 points while grabbing eight rebounds and snagging three steals. Guard Lindsay Whalen had a solid all-around game scoring 13 points while adding five rebounds and five assists in the loss.
KEY MATCHUP: KIAH STOKES VS. REBEKKAH BRUNSON
Lynx forward Rebekkah Brunson did not play in the preseason opener against the Mystics, but looks ready to go heading in to Monday night’s game. Brunson, despite playing in only 11 games last year, was a huge contributor when healthy, averaging 7.2 points and 8.2 rebounds. When Brunson plays, she makes things happen for the Lynx and that will be a key to a Lynx victory. Brunson will need to stop the success of rookie center Kiah Stokes, which is easier said than done.
Stokes has been having a great preseason and will look to continue that success on Monday night. Stokes has averaged 10 points and 11 rebounds through her first two games of WNBA action. If the Lynx want to end their preseason with a victory, keeping Stokes off the boards is going to be essential.
The Stokes-Brunson matchup will be fun to watch all game and will, at the end of the game, likely decide which team ends their preseason victorious.
