The Game

The Lynx are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to the Dallas Wings as they return home to take on the Atlanta Dream. The Lynx are 6-6 on the season while the Wings are 2-8. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in the 2019 season.

On Sunday, it was the Wings that responded after suffering a difficult loss in their previous game, now the Lynx aim to channel their frustrations into a good performance of their own.

The Dream have struggled mightily this season behind an offense that has been chronically unable to produce and a defense that has dropped off significantly from last year when they were one of the best defensive teams in the league.

The biggest offensive threat for Atlanta is Tiffany Hayes, who is averaging 12.6 points per game. Though the Dream certainly have some individual talent on their roster, they have struggled to get good shots as a team this season and are averaging just 37.0-percent shooting from the field.

The Lynx have been a better offensive team in the last few weeks despite a drop-off in their winning percentage. However, their defense has regressed a bit since the start of the season. This should be a good opportunity to get back on track.

Injury Woes

The Lynx simply cannot catch a break this season. The team announced on Monday that Karima Christmas-Kelly will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee procedure. While Christmas-Kelly wasn’t playing a huge role on the court for the Lynx, her gradual return to form after surgery last season was something the Lynx were hoping would give them a boost. Now she will have to miss yet another season of play. Best wishes to her in her recovery. She is in good hands with the Lynx team doctors.

Additionally, Damiris Dantas will miss another contest tonight as she works through a calf injury that has held her out of practice for the better part of a week. She missed Sunday’s game as well. Dantas is certainly missed on the court. Her shooting and playmaking had become a large part of the Lynx’s gameplan and she certainly leaves a void. She will return soon.

Locking In

The story of the season has been execution down the stretch of games. The Lynx simply have not been able to keep in the flow of their offense in the fourth quarter. A lot has been said—yes, teams buckle down harder with the game on the line and it takes time to learn how to execute down the stretch—but at some point, there’s a possibility the Lynx are in their own heads about it as well. If they can produce in the fourth quarter tonight against a weakened Dream defense it could go a long way towards helping them build some much-needed confidence.
