The Game

The Lynx are trying to win a third-straight game as they travel to Dallas to take on the Wings. The Lynx are 6-5 on the season while the Wings are 3-7.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Wings respond after a deflating 69-68 loss in New York on Friday. Kayla Thorton was excellent in that game, so rookie Napheesa Collier will need to be locked in defensively right away to ensure she doesn’t get off to a strong start.

Minnesota’s offense has been flowing better lately and they’ll have a chance to test that progress against stiffer competition. Despite their subpar record, the Wings have had one of the best defenses in the league thus far and are one of the best rebounding teams in the league as well. As a team that prides themselves on both defense and rebounding the Lynx will need to execute in an interesting battle for superiority.

It’s going to be a hot and stormy Sunday in Minnesota. What better way to spend the day than inside watching your hometown team battle it out in Dallas?

Efficiency Issues

Arike Ogunbowale has WNBA star potential, there’s little doubt out that, but the knock on her coming out of college was her efficiency and so far we haven’t seen a ton to disprove that concern.

On Friday against the Liberty Ogunbowale shot an insanely low 2-of-23 from the field. Her two makes were both three-point attempts and it took her 13 attempts from beyond the arc to get those two to fall. On the season she’s shooting just over 30 percent.

The Lynx are a team that is good at forcing their opponents into taking tough shots and you have to think that after a night like she had on Friday Ogunbowale will come out trying to prove something. If Minnesota can force her into another inefficient night a victory will come far easier.

Dagger Damiris

The last time the Lynx played the Wings, Damiris Dantas was huge, coming up with 20 points including three makes from deep. She’s been excellent in the Lynx’s last few outings, especially shooting the ball from deep, so it will be interesting to see how the Wings try to slow her down.

Dantas has become a surprising engine of much of what the Lynx like to do offensively. I wrote about her play earlier this week and pointed out that she’s facilitating a very high percentage of looks to Sylvia Fowles and Napheesa Collier—two players whose performances are key to victory in their own right. Figuring out how to keep Dantas effective against a defense that will certainly be keyed in on stopping her is going to be a big priority for the Lynx.
