Lynx to Host Breast Health Awareness Night Presented by Mayo Clinic on Tuesday, August 31

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx will host their annual Breast Health Awareness Night presented by Mayo Clinic on Tuesday, August 31. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will be in attendance as the Lynx take on the New York Liberty at 7 p.m. CT.

The Lynx will recognize breast cancer survivors Lu Fischer, Kayla Van Der Weerd, Lutricia Vincent, and Reona Berry, all who are passionate advocates for breast cancer education. Throughout the evening their stories will be shared, and a special feature will focus on Lutricia’s story, a long-time Lynx season ticket holder.

Mayo Clinic will be awarded a $10K grant from the Minnesota Lynx to support cancer research focused on prevention, prediction, diagnosis, and treatment. Fans can learn more about breast health awareness information by visiting the Minnesota Lynx Breast Health Awareness page.

Following a year that highlighted health disparities largely impacting communities of color, the Fastbreak Foundation is granting a four-year $250K commitment to the African American Breast Cancer Alliance (AABCA).

“On behalf of the Fastbreak Foundation, we are thrilled to honor and support the incredible efforts of AABCA,” said Fastbreak Foundation Board Member Chanda Smith-Baker. “The culturally specific education, awareness, and programming support led by Reona Berry is a critical resource in addressing health equity in our community.”

Berry is the AABCA co-founder, president, and a cancer survivor. During the half-time check presentation, she will be recognized as an Inspiring Woman, as part of the Lynx Inspiring Women series that spotlights extraordinary local women throughout the season.

“Black women have the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the U.S. From its inception, we have been committed to sharing crucial and life affirming information about breast cancer to promote the benefits of early detection and treatment,” said Berry. “This grant supports patient and family programs from educational resources to survivorship. And most importantly allows us to continue to ‘Share, Support, Survive.’”

“This is a significant night, not only for the Lynx, but leaguewide,” said Lynx President of Business Operations Carley Knox. “We recognize the inequities in health care that our marginalized communities experience, and continue to be an advocate so all have access to care.”
