Lynx Meet Liberty For Second Time This Season
The Minnesota Lynx (6-3) are set to take on the New York Liberty (1-8) for a second time this season on Saturday night in Bradenton, Fla.
Minnesota fell short to the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday night, losing 87-77. The Lynx were forced to play the majority of the game without veteran center Sylvia Fowles after a calf injury that kept her from playing two games already this season was reaggravated in the second quarter. Napheesa Collier led the team with a double-double of 21 points and 14 rebounds in the defeat.
New York is on a three-game losing streak after falling to the Indiana Fever on Thursday, 86-79. Liberty guard Kia Nurse had a game-high of 21 points for the team, with guard Layshia Clarendon’s 20 points not far behind. New York has been playing without its star rookie, Sabrina Ionescu, who injured her ankle during a game on July 31.
Tonight’s game with mark Cheryl Reeve’s 350th regular season game as Head Coach of the Lynx. She is the seventh coach to reach 350 games in WNBA history and the second to do so with one franchise.
The Lynx beat the Liberty, 92-66, in their first meeting this season on August 5 behind Bridget Carleton’s 25 points.
