Lynx Can't Hang On, Fall To Aces
Despite having a 14-point lead in the second quarter, the Lynx weren’t able to hold on against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday evening at Target Center. The Lynx lost 80-75.
The loss knocks the Lynx to 4-5 on the season, the first they’ve been below .500 in 2019. The Aces improve to 4-3.
A big difference in the game was at the free-throw line. The Lynx hit nine of 10 free throws, while the Aces got to the line 27 times and made 24. Not the differential you want to see.
The Lynx had a lead throughout the whole game before falling behind in the last two minutes. Certainly a frustrating loss, especially at home. It marks Minnesota’s third-straight loss and fourth in five games, but the Lynx will get six days off before taking on the Liberty at home next Saturday. That practice time should be beneficial.
Had the Lynx won, the story would have been about Damiris Dantas and her shooting. Dantas finished with 22 points and six rebounds while shooting 8-for-15 from the field and 5-for-10 from the 3-point line.
Odyssey Sims added 14 points and five assists, but shot just 3-for-11 from the field. Danielle Robinson added 12 points.
While Sylvia Fowles had a quiet eight-point, nine-rebound game, she did move to 19th on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list.
Kayla McBride led Las Vegas with 22 points and five rebounds. Kelsey Plum added 21 points, 15 coming from the 3-point line. Liz Camage and A’ja Wilson combined for 27 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks.
Tipoff between the Lynx and Liberty on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. You can get ticket and broadcast information here.
