5 Dates to Note in the 2025 Lynx Regular Season Schedule

Mon, Dec 2, 2024, 10:11 PM

The 2025 WNBA schedule has just been released, and with the addition of a 13th team in the WNBA in the Golden State Valkyries, the league will operate on a 44-game regular season schedule for the first time in their 29-year existence. Here are five dates to mark in your calendar for the 2025 Lynx regular season.

1. Fri, May 16: Tip-Off Thriller Against the Dallas Wings

For the second straight season, the Lynx will open up their regular season campaign on the road. This time Minnesota will be in Dallas to take on the Wings. There will be an increased buzz in the building for this opening night game as it will mark the pro debut of the #1 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft which Dallas owns. Many mock drafts currently have Hopkins, Minnesota native Paige Bueckers being the top selection in this draft, if she declares. If that stands true, a showdown to tip off the regular season between two former UConn Huskies in Bueckers and Napheesa Collier will be a very special treat for WNBA fans.

2. Sun, June 1: Lynx Clash With the Valkyries in San Francisco

The Lynx will play their first ever game in San Francisco at Chase Center against the Valkyries on June 1st. This will also be the first game of the 2025 Commissioner’s Cup for both teams. After winning the Commissioner’s Cup in 2024, Minnesota will look to defend that title again, and a win to tip off the in-season tournament would be huge. Minnesota will also have just seen Golden State seven days prior to this game, which could help raise the stakes for this rematch, especially if the first meeting brings fireworks.

3. Tues, June 17: Phee and the Lynx Meet A’ja and the Aces in a Commissioner’s Cup Showdown

The final game of Minnesota’s group stage games in the Commissioner’s Cup features an intriguing matchup with the Las Vegas Aces at Target Center. This will mark the first regular season meeting between Napheesa Collier and A’ja Wilson, the top two finalists in MVP voting in 2024. The 2025 WNBA MVP race is expected to be headlined by these two players once again, and a statement performance by Collier and the Lynx to tip off their regular season series against the Aces could be a great way for her to earn some early clout in the MVP race.

4. Wed, July 30: A Finals Rematch With the Liberty

The first highly anticipated WNBA Finals rematch between the Lynx and the Liberty will take place on July 30th in Downtown Minneapolis. With the tight showdown we saw in Game 5 of the 2024 WNBA Finals, there will be a lot of eyes on a matchup that will feature two teams that have aspirations of getting back to the finals again.

5. Sun, August 24: Caitlin Clark and the Fever Arrive in Minnesota

The Indiana Fever were the hottest ticket in the WNBA in the 2024 season, drawing sellout crowds to nearly every arena they played in, and it is expected to be the same in 2025. In what will be their first year under new Head Coach Stephanie White who is coming over from the Connecticut Sun and the second WNBA season for the league’s reigning rookie of the year in Caitlin Clark, Indiana’s expectations this coming season will be raised. Late August is also the time in the regular season where more attention is focused on playoff positioning around the WNBA, which could make the anticipation for this matchup even greater than currently advertised.
