Smith Named To Fourth Consecutive All-Star Game

July 2, 2003 � The WNBA today announced that Lynx guard Katie Smith has been selected as a reserve for the 2003 Western Conference All-Star Team. This is the fourth consecutive season that Smith has been chosen by Western Conference coaches to participate in the WNBA All-Star Game.

Smith's 18.1 ppg leads the Lynx and ranks fourth in the WNBA. Smith ranks among the WNBA league leaders in points (second), FGM (second), FG% (ninth), 3FGM (first), 3FGA (first), 3FG% (14th), minutes (fourth) and FT% (15th). She has topped the Lynx in scoring in eight contests, scoring 10+ points in 13 games, and 20+ points in four contests.

Smith, the all-time leading scorer in the history of women's professional basketball (ABL/WNBA) with 3,932 points, scored the 2,500th point in her WNBA career Tuesday night in Houston. The 5-11 guard became the second-fastest player in league history (139 games) to reach the milestone. She also scored 1,431 points in two-plus seasons with the Columbus Quest of the ABL.

Smith, who has been selected as an All-Star reserve four consecutive seasons, earned a starting assignment in the 2000 WNBA All-Star Game due to an injury to Houston's Cynthia Cooper. This is the fifth consecutive season that the Lynx have had at least one player appear in the WNBA All-Star Game: Tonya Edwards (1999), Smith and Betty Lennox (2000), Smith (2001), Smith (2002), Smith (2003).

The 2003 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the New York Liberty and New York City on Saturday, July 12 at Madison Square Garden. The game will be nationally broadcast on ABC beginning at 3:00 p.m. CDT.
