Minnesota is entering a stretch where six of the teams next eight games will be played at home in the Target Center. After June where the team was on the road for much of the month and they had a stretch of six games in 10 days, this is a much deserved break for the defending WNBA champions.
Maya Moore said after shootaround Tuesday that these home games allow players to get back in their normal routines and rest up a bit before games.
This has been a tough stretch of road games, flying and traveling, Moore said on Tuesday. So being at home, getting a little bit of a rhythm of sleeping in our own beds and having our home crowd behind us will hopefully get the ball rolling in the direction that we want to be. Were excited to see our fans a lot, and playing with great energy together at home.
The team hosts Los Angeles tonight, with the tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m. CT. The Lynx are 2-0 against the Sparks this season, but this is the first time this year that they will face each other in Target Center.
Despite home games providing a boost for the players, Moore also said that there is an added pressure playing on their home floor.
Theres huge pressure on every game, but especially when youre at home you want to make sure that youre protecting your home court, Moore said. Thats very important if you want to have a chance to be effective in the playoffs and finishing out the regular season. Its good to build that momentum at home.
