There was more Olympic talk at Thursday afternoon’s practice for the Minnesota Lynx – and for good reason.

It was announced on Wednesday that Sylvia Fowles, Maya Moore, Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus will represent USA in Rio this coming August.

Fowles said the players found out on Sunday and Monday before making the trip to New York for a full-blown media tour.

“Hectic,” Fowles said of the experience. “It was a lot of stuff, but a lot of it was being with the fans and thanking folks and everybody being aware of the team. It was fun, but it was very time consuming within 47 hours or something like that.”

The Olympics start on August 5 and end August 21. This is, of course, during the WNBA season. While the players are obviously honored to be representing their country, it is a major adjustment going from the season, to the Olympics, back to the season. And this is all while becoming teammates with your opponents and then facing off against your Olympic teammates after.

“You have to switch gears really quick,” Whalen said. “You really have to learn to be on your toes with that type of stuff and I think that more than anything, it’s the Olympics. It’s a big year in that there’s a lot going on around you. Different things are happening.”

It may be hard to believe, but the season is right around the corner. The team will play its first preseason game a week from Thursday in New York. The team will get a much-deserved day off on Friday after practicing for five straight days.
