Timberwolves Read To Achieve Program concludes with more than 3.7 million minutes read

MINNEAPOLIS and ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx and Xcel Energy celebrated National Reading Month with the culmination of a Read to Achieve celebration at Blooming Prairie Elementary School. The Read to Achieve program, powered by Xcel Energy, encourages the advancement of literacy, fostering a love of reading among youth and challenges students (K-5th grade) throughout the state to read 500 minutes over the course of four months throughout the school year.

This season 14,600 participating students throughout Minnesota read more than 3.7 million minutes with Blooming Prairie Elementary School being the most engaged school. The students celebrated with the Wolves, Lynx and Xcel Energy with a day full of fun, including spending time with Timberwolves mascot, Crunch and had the opportunity to select a free book from the Timberwolves and Lynx Education Station.

As part of the Read to Achieve program, the Education Station, powered by Xcel Energy, is a mobile bookstore that provides thousands of free books to students.

The Read to Achieve celebration caps-off a busy month of reading activations for the Wolves, Lynx and Xcel Energy. Highlights throughout the month include:

Reading Rally Day with Timberwolves Guard Jaylen Clark and Timberwolves Quality Control Coach Nate Bubes

Clark, Bubes and Xcel Energy brought reading fun to Benjamin E. Mays, a school that partners with Playworks and was also recently named the 200,000 Little Free Library®. Clark and Bubes visited with students and discussed the importance of reading. Students also selected free books from the Education Station.

Education Station Visit to Nellie Stone Johnson Elementary School with Timberwolves Center Rudy Gobert and Timberwolves Assistant Coach Kevin Hanson

Gobert, Hanson and Crunch participated in a special storytime and spoke and helped them select a free book in the Education Station.

The Education Station made 11 visits to area schools throughout the Timberwolves season, impacting more than 1,200 students with free books. The Education Station runs all year long and will visit local community groups this summer during the Lynx season.
