Three Observations From Sunday’s Lynx Win In Game 3

The Minnesota Lynx took down the Washington Mystics 81-70 on Sunday afternoon in the nation’s capital to sweep the semifinal series 3-0 and advance to yet another WNBA Finals.

Here are our three observations from the game:

Turning It Up In The Second Half

The difference in the game on Sunday for Minnesota came in the first few minutes of the second half.

The Lynx trailing 39-38 coming out of halftime, but stepped on the gas to pull away from the Mystics on the road.

Minnesota opened up the second half on an 11-0 run to regain the  lead and not look back. Seimone Augustus opened the half on a 10-0 run be herself.

The Lynx went on to outscore the Mystics 43-31 in the second half to come away with the series-clinching win.

Series Sweep

With the win, the Lynx completed the 3-0 sweep of the Mystics to advance in the WNBA Playoffs. 

The Lynx have now sweep each of the previous four series (2011 Finals vs. Atlanta, 2013 Finals vs. Atlanta, 2016 semifinals vs. Phoenix and 2017 semifinals vs. Washington) after being up 2-0 in the series.

It is also the fifth time in six years the Lynx have kicked off postseason play with three consecutive wins.

Back To The Finals

Along with completed the series sweep over Washington, Minnesota advances to face the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2017 WNBA Finals.

The Lynx will appear in the WNBA Finals for the third straight season and for the sixth time in the last seven years.

In the last five Finals appearances, Minnesota has a record of 3-2. The six Finals appearances are the most in WNBA history (Los Angeles – 5, Detroit/Houston/New York/Phoenix – 4).

The Lynx and Sparks will kick off Game 1 of the WNBA Finals at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Williams Arena. The game will be aired on ABC, 106.1 BOB FM, TuneIn Radio and the Lynx App.
