The Rundown:
Huff is the type of player every coach loves to have on their team. She does everything well, she’s even-keeled, she’s a hard worker and most importantly when she gets on the court she produces.
Huff averages close to a double-double on decent efficiency numbers, she’s a great rebounder and she can stretch the floor. She possesses exactly the skill set that you need to be a valuable player on any team. Huff is also a solid defender and her rebounding ability helps her end possessions on that end. She has a little trouble taking care of the ball and she’s not a great distributor, but that can be hidden at her position.
It’s also encouraging that Huff has improved dramatically since last season. She was asked to step up this year as the leader of her team and she delivered—raising her averages from 14.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per game to 19.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
In terms of Huff’s WNBA prospects, it’s not necessarily a question of there being an obvious knock on her game, it’s more a question of whether she’ll be able to continue producing against stiffer competition both in games and in practice. Huff will definitely be drafted and will be a good addition to any training camp but will probably need to spend some time honing her game overseas before she can earn meaningful minutes on a WNBA squad. That said, Huff could also surprise and battle her way to a roster spot this season. It’s hard to bet against a player as well-rounded as Huff, but there are also realities of the WNBA that are hard to ignore.
