Sylvia Fowles Powers Team U.S.A. In Huge Win Over China
On Thursday, Lynx forward Sylvia Fowles led the United States to a resounding 83-46 victory over China in a women’s basketball exhibition game.
Fowles and Lynx teammate Seimone Augustus both play for the U.S. Women’s National Team, which has won back-to-back World Cup titles and four of the past five FIBA World Cups.
In Saturday’s exhibition, Fowles scored a team-high 16 points on 87.5-percent shooting in just 17:52 minutes. Fourteen of those points came during a 25-0 run for Team U.S.A. Justifiably, Fowles is feeling great about the team’s standing heading into the 2018 FIBA World Cup, to be held in September.
“It’s just the chemistry of knowing where we’re going to be and how to get me the ball and things like that—and it worked,” she said to the Associated Press. “I think we still have a little ways to go, but I’m happy with the direction we’re moving in.”
One thing is for sure—Fowles is in great shape heading into Lynx training camp. Like many WNBA players, she has been playing basketball for practically the entire WNBA offseason, and like her fellow Lynx star Maya Moore, she’s been winning a lot too. That will come in handy as the Lynx fight to earn back-to-back titles this season.
