The Lynx have an extremely important game ahead of them on Tuesday. They face the Chicago Sky with a chance to clinch a playoff spot.

Minnesota is prepared—they have won two games in a row by big margins led by rookie sensation Napheesa Collier.

After averaging 18.7 points, six rebounds and 3.3 steals per game, Collier was named the Western Conference Player of the Week. She has found a new level to take her game to and it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Lynx.

“I think just coming out with a sense of determination and aggression. It’s the end of the season and we’re fighting for a playoff spot so kind of just kicking that into a second gear,” she said.

While Collier admits that winning player of the week meant a lot to her, she isn’t one to talk herself up too much. However, her teammates are more than happy to do that for her. They’ve been calling her “ROY,” in practice and take every opportunity to share how important her play has been to the team.

There’s no question that Collier is in rare company in terms of what she’s been able to do this season. The great Tamika Catchings is the only player in WNBA history to score more than 400 points, collect more than 200 rebounds, dish out more than 80 assists and swipe more than 60 steals in her rookie year. Collier has put herself in that conversation—she needs 20 points, two steals, eight rebounds and six assists to join her.

The way Collier is playing right now, it seems like she could probably do that in one night. Maybe that night will be Tuesday.

Minnesota could definitely use another excellent performance. With the playoffs on the line the Lynx will be fired up and ready to go.

“We love playing at home. The energy is always so great and being at home we want to defend our turf, so this is a great game for us,” said Collier. “Chicago has been playing really well and Chicago is trying to secure a playoff spot so we’re ready to play.”
