Shootaround Report | Danielle Robinson Ready To Build On An Encouraging Performance

As the Lynx look to get back on the right track on Friday night against the Sun, Danielle Robinson’s play will be critical. Though she’s started every game for the Lynx, her minutes have fluctuated a bit over the course of the season. Robinson had the best game of her season in the Lynx’s last game, a loss in New York, and while she’s hoping to replicate that performance, her main priority is getting a victory.

“I’m a team player. Whatever the team needs from me. If that’s Lexie [Brown] playing more, if that’s [Odyssey Sims] playing more, as long as we compete and get the win,” she said. “I’m thankful to be in an opportunity where we have great talented players one through 12, and like I said I’m just ready for whatever the team needs me to do.”

As the team’s point guard, Robinson plays a key role in helping unlock her teammates as well. With an almost entirely new squad on the court this year, there’s been a learning curve.

Learning what your teammates like to do on the floor, where they like to get the ball and the pace that they’re comfortable playing at is a constant undertaking, not one that’s started and finished during training camp.

“I think it’s an everyday process. Now it’s not just practices but in games,” said Robinson. “Just continuing to be willing to learn, be willing to put each other in different positions and see where we fit, but right now I think we have a solid base.”

While losing three of the last four games hurts, the Lynx’s resolve is strong. They’ve made some changes—simplifying the offense, emphasizing transition opportunities, honing in on certain elements of their defense—but the biggest thing the team is missing right now is execution, and that comes with time and repetition. All the players on the team know that.

Heading into a tough weekend where the Lynx play the Sun Friday night then the Aces on Sunday, nobody is expecting wins to come easily. What they do know is that with their home crowd behind them and their faith in one another as strong as ever, they’re ready to give it their best effort.

“I think everybody wants to get better. We all want to win, we all want to be undefeated, every team does, but we know that these moments are what make us stronger,” said Robinson. “At the end of the road whatever comes we’re going to look back on this journey. That starts with losing a few, but now we have time to regroup, be in front of our fans, be at home where they help us bring energy, so we’re looking forward to that.”
