The 2019 season was one full of injuries for Seimone Augustus. After undergoing knee surgery to open the season, Augustus played in just 12 games on the season and played a career-low 13 minutes per game.
It’s unfair to judge Augustus’ per-game numbers considering she was never in a rhythm and never seemed fully healthy.
Just because she wasn’t on the court, though, doesn’t mean Augustus wasn’t a positive contributor for this team. She was a veteran voice on the bench for a team full of young players. Her mentoring, especially to Rookie of the Year Napheesa Collier, was invaluable.
Augustus is 35 and it’s no secret the end of her career is near. She said at her end-of-the-season press conference that she would think about retirement, as would be expected.
“This year, for sure after how the year went for me,” Augustus said. “It’s something that I’ll definitely consider and see how I feel. I have to listen to my body.”
Augustus will be resting this offseason and see how her body feels after a taxing 2019 season for her.
