Napheesa Collier has likened the WNBA’s single-site season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. to college life.

Everything from practices to meals to team meetings is on a schedule. Players and staff have a card that is scanned before breakfast, lunch, and dinner, just like ‘meal points.’ Even the common areas have a ‘campus’ vibe, often seeing others from fellow WNBA franchises in passing.

For Collier, however, the experience is even more of a college throwback, given her living situation with fellow UConn Husky Crystal Dangerfield. The two lived together in Storrs, Conn. during their three years overlapping playing for Geno Auriemma.

Being together again, the chemistry has already carried over on to the court.

“We’re roommates again, so that’s really cool,” Collier said. “Being with her again, being so familiar with her — I played with her for three years — it’s really cool to be able to play with her again on the court because we’re so comfortable . I kinda know what she’s doing; she knows where I wanna be.”

Echoed Dangerfield: “It feels like we really haven’t skipped a beat. It’s been a year, but I still know her tendencies and she knows mine.”

A rookie entering a new system, those tendencies have helped Dangerfield mesh with the Lynx.

“I love it,” Dangerfield said of playing with Collier. ” We were working on defense, and I know what she wants to do and how she wants to rotate.

“That history is gonna help. A lot.”

Collier and Dangerfield compiled a 107-5 record in their three years together at UConn, including a 48-0 conference record and three trips to the Final Four.
