Preview: Lynx at Mystics

The Minnesota Lynx (21-10) face the Washington Mystics (12-19) at Entertainment & Sports Arena for their regular season finale on Sunday afternoon.

The Lynx are on a hot streak following their third straight win over the Indiana Fever on Friday night. Minnesota center and Most Valuable Player/Defensive Player of the Year candidate Sylvia Fowles posted a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game, her 13th double-double this season.

The Mystics, meanwhile, fell short against the New York Liberty 91-80 on Friday night. Despite the loss, Washington forward Ariel Atkins put up a game-high 29 points, 17 of those coming in the third quarter.

After defeating Indiana three consecutive times, Minnesota officially clinched a one-game bye in the 2021 WNBA playoffs.

That said, Sunday’s games are integral to the WNBA Playoff picture for many teams, including the Lynx.

If the Lynx defeat the Mystics, they will secure the third seed in the postseason. If Minnesota falls to Washington, they will secure the fourth seed, while the Seattle Storm will claim the third seed. Regardless of Sunday’s outcome, the Lynx will play at home on Sunday, September 26th.

The Mystics, however, are fighting for the chance to keep their season going. If Washington pulls off a victory, they will secure the eighth and final seed in the Playoffs.
