Where she’ll go:

It’s highly likely that Sabally will be selected as the No. 2 overall pick behind college teammate Sabrina Ionescu, and it’d be pretty surprising if she dropped anywhere below the No. 4 overall pick.

The Rundown:

Even though her teammate is a likely back-to-back Wooden Award winner, Sabally has still shined throughout her college career. In fact, she may be the most league-ready prospect in the 2020 draft class.

Sabally is a 21-year-old, 6’4 small forward who many believe is just beginning to show us all that she can be, and she’s already racked up a bountiful amount of accolades ranging from Pac-12 Freshman of the Year (2017-18) to being a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award, which is awarded to the nation’s top small forward.

Her height would allow her to mix it up with opposing WNBA forwards while her guard-like speed would make her a multi-dimensional defender. Not to mention, she can space the floor with her outside shooting, which is basically a necessity of small forwards in the modern WNBA.

The Berlin native is an extremely versatile player who can play physically under the rim (she averaged 5.1 free-throw attempts per game in 2019-20), but her most noteworthy trait may be the fluidity of her game. You’ll rarely catch Sabally fumbling a pass or losing her dribble on an attack (she averaged 2.2 turnovers per game), which is a deadly trait for a player of her size.

Another admirable trait of Sabally’s is her level-headed composure. Not only did she handle any pressure that came her way as he competed with a team that had attainable NCAA title aspirations, but she also played alongside two of the nation’s top players, Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard. She still managed to stand out while still being a selfless player.

Of course, some will wonder how Sabally will perform if she isn’t paired with a prolific passer such as Ionescu. But Sabally has shown she can also score off the dribble and serve as a distributor herself during her three-year collegiate career. Landing on a team like Dallas that doesn’t have a dominant forward presence may just be the best opportunity for Sabally to grow into her own player.

Don’t get your hopes up about Sabally falling to the No. 6 pick, Lynx fans. Though adding Sabally to the Lynx’s forward artillery that already includes Napheesa Collier and Damiris Dantas would be ideal, Minnesota will likely only be able to appreciate Sabally’s contributions to the league from afar.
