No Reason To Panic For Lynx Fans

The Lynx have lost three-straight games after Tuesday night’s 90-80 loss to the Sparks.

That has dropped the Lynx 13-15 on the 2019 season.

While the first inclination might be to overreact and get down — because three games in a 34 game season is significant — you shouldn’t.

The Lynx are still eighth in the WNBA and have a 3.5-game lead over the Fever for the final playoff spot with six games remaining.

Not trying to jinx the Lynx here, but the playoffs are very likely.

The Lynx are only a half-game back from the seventh-seeded Mercury and two games back from the sixth-seeded Seattle Storm. While catching the Storm is unlikely, it would give the Lynx a home game to open the playoffs.

To close out the season, the Lynx play the Wings, Aces, Sky, Fever, Mercury and Sparks.

I guess, for me, the 2019 season was one that many thought would be a rebuilding season, but instead, we’ve seen the Lynx turn into a competitive team that has a real identity for the future.

Sylvia Fowles is still Sylvia Fowles. Odyssey Sims has been one of the best guards in the league and most-certainly should be in the conversation for Most Improved Player. Napheesa Collier is the Rookie of the Year (and I don’t think it’s particularly close). And then you have Lexie Brown, who has looked like one of the best shooters in the entire league when she’s on, and she’s only 24 years old.

The Lynx won four championships over a seven-year stretch with the same (besides the addition of Fowles for the last two) core. Eventually, there was going to be a rebuild. But this rebuild feels more like a transition, even if the team does finish with a record below .500 this season.
