Earning yet another accolade in her short career, Napheesa Collier was named the AP Rookie of the Year for 2019 on Wednesday morning.
Collier averaged 13.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.9 blocks this season. She shot 49.0 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three.
More importantly than her raw stats, Collier played a pivotal role in helping the Lynx reach the playoffs. She led the entire WNBA in minutes and quickly became one of the most trusted and valued members of the team, playing multiple positions and filling many roles for a Lynx team in transition.
So far, the AP award has been a good predictor for WNBA Rookie of the Year. The AP has named a Rookie of the Year for the past three years. Breanna Stewart, Allisha Gray and A’Ja Wilson were all give the award and then went on to win the WNBA award.
Coller was also picked by espnW for Rookie of the Year.
