Minnesota Lynx Guard Kayla McBride Named Western Conference Player of the Week
MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today announced Lynx guard Kayla McBride has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from July 28 – August 3. The Player of the Week award is the first of her career, and the third weekly honor for the Lynx this season (Napheesa Collier – June 10, May 28).
During the week, the 5-11 guard averaged 24.0 points, shooting 16-of-25 (64.0%) from the floor, including 13-of-19 (68.4%) from three, 5.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals through two games. McBride currently ranks second in the WNBA in three-point baskets made (71), 11th in three-point percentage (40.8%) and 20th in scoring (14.8 ppg).
The Erie, Pa. native posted 24 points on July 30 against the New York Liberty, shooting 8-of-14 (57.1%) from the floor, including 5-of-9 (55.6%) from beyond the arc, while adding three rebounds and five assists in the 100-93 win. On August 2, McBride became the first player in WNBA history to record eight three-point baskets without a miss in a half during Minnesota’s 111-58 win over Las Vegas, which was the largest margin of victory on the road in league history. During the contest, McBride tied her career-high and the franchise record for made threes while totaling 24 points on 8-of-10 (80.0%) shooting from deep, five assists, three steals and two rebounds.
McBride has scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games and has recorded six 20+ performances so far this season. The guard is averaging 14.8 points, 3.3 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals through 31.2 minutes per game while shooting 43.3% from the floor and 40.8% from deep this season.
