MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Diamond Miller Rookie of the Month for the month of July. This is the first Rookie of the Month award of the season for Miller and the seventh such honor in franchise history. She joins previous Lynx rookies Crystal Dangerfield (Aug. and Sept. 2020), Napheesa Collier (July 2019), Maya Moore (July and Aug. 2011) and Candice Wiggins (June 2008).

Through 11 games in the month of July, the 6-3 forward out of Maryland averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 26.5 minutes. After 19 games this season, Miller leads all rookies in free throw percentage (81.4%) and ranks second in scoring (13.2 ppg), assists (2.9) and field goal percentage (40.5%).

Highlights from Miller’s month include:

  • July 1 at Phoenix: Led the Lynx with a game-high and career-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. She added five rebounds and five assists, becoming the sixth rookie in WNBA history to finish with 25+ points/5+ rebounds/5+ assists.
  • July 20 vs. Los Angeles: Fell just shy of a triple-double with 13 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Miller helped pace the Lynx to the win over the Sparks 73-70, which marked the first four-game sweep of the Sparks in franchise history. She became the first Lynx rookie to have 10+ points/5+ rebounds/9+ assists in a game and only the second WNBA rookie to do so with Breanna Stewart having done it in 2016.
  • July 26 vs. Washington: Played a large role in Minnesota’s 97-92 victory over the Mystics when she racked up 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting and added three rebounds and nine assists. With a single turnover, she became the first rookie in WNBA history to amass 21+ points and 9+ assists while having only one turnover or less.
