Fowles Named 2022 WNBA Peak Performer in Rebounds

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA announced today that Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles is the recipient of the 2021 WNBA Peak Performer in rebounds per game this season. The WNBA Peak Performer awards are presented to the regular-season statistical leaders in points per game, rebounds per game and assists per game.

Fowles, 36, led the league in rebounds (9.8) and holds the single-game high for most rebounds in a game (20 on June 1 at Atlanta). She wrapped up her 15th and final WNBA season by starting in all 30 of her games played and led the league with a 62.2 field goal percentage.

The 6-6 center posted 13 double-doubles in 2022, raising her career total to 193, including 101 in a Lynx uniform. Fowles registered a season-high 26 points and 14 rebounds on May 10 at Indiana, finishing with five games with 20+ points/10+ rebounds this season (77 career). She tallied 13.0 points, on 58% shooting, 9.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks over the last 10 games of the season, in which Minnesota went 5-5. In her final regular season game at Target Center on August 12 vs. Seattle, she became the all-time leading rebounder in Lynx history with 2,174, passing Rebekkah Brunson. She also leads the Lynx in defensive rebounds (1,552), blocks (345) and field goal percentage (61.0). Fowles rounds out her career leading the WNBA in total rebounds (4,006), defensive rebounds (1,132), rebounds per game (9.8) and field goal percentage (59.9).

This is Fowles’ third peak performer award of her career (2013, 2018) and second with Minnesota (2018). Fowles is the only recipient to receive the award in Lynx history (now twice) and becomes the fourth player in league history to win the award three or more times (Tina Charles, Candace Parker, Jonquel Jones).

Originally drafted second overall in the 2008 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky, Fowles finished her career averaging 15.7 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 408 career regular season games (399 starts). She is an eight-time WNBA All-Star (2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022), a four-time Olympic Gold Medalist (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) and a four-time WNBA Defensive Player of the year (2011, 2013, 2016, 2021). Fowles is also a three-time All-WNBA First Team selection (2010, 2013, 2017), as well as an eight-time All-WNBA Defensive First Team selection (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021).

In honor of being named the 2022 WNBA Peak Performer, Fowles will receive a specially designed plaque by Tiffany & Co.
