Lynx Starters Dominate in Early All-Star Returns

Judging from the first returns of fan voting for the 2018 WNBA All-Star Game, WNBA fans certainly have the ability to recognize greatness when they see it.

Maya Moore, the generationally-talented Lynx star small forward, was the top vote-getter with 25,496 votes. Additionally, all of the Lynx starters were among the top-20 recipients. Sylvia Fowles came in at No. 8, Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen at Nos. 12 and 13, respectively, and Rebekkah Brunson at No. 18. Also making the list was young Minnesota standout Cecilia Zandalasini at No. 35. While Zandalasini is unlikely to make the All-Star team this year, her time will certainly come.

Of the Lynx’s group, Augustus has made the most All-Star appearances, with seven. Brunson, Moore, and Whalen are all five-time All-Stars, while Fowles has made the team four times.

Moore and Fowles have led the Lynx statistically this season. Fowles is averaging 17.2 points per game and a career-high 12 rebounds, while Moore is scoring 19.8 points per game, the seventh-highest mark in the league.

The WNBA All-Star game will be held in Minnesota this year, so it holds special significance for Lynx players. Fan voting closes on July 12, and the final All-Star teams will be announced on July 17. Final voting takes into consideration the votes of coaches, players, and the media, in addition to the fan vote, but fan voting is worth 40-percent of the total. Twenty-two All-Stars will be selected without regard to conference and drafted by team captains in a new format for this year’s contest.
