Lynx Sign Kayla McBride to Multi-Year Contract Extension

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed guard Kayla McBride to a multi-year contract extension. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released. 

“Kayla has proven to be such an integral part of the Lynx since her arrival in 2021. Her play this season, coupled with her leadership, has been vital to the Lynx returning to playoff basketball,” said Lynx Head Coach and President of Basketball Operations Cheryl Reeve. “We look forward to KMac wearing the Lynx uniform for years to come.” 

McBride, a 5-11 guard, has started in all 36 games she appeared in for Minnesota this season, averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals (18th) in 31.7 minutes She currently ranks at 25th in points and 18th in steals throughout the league. A highlight of her season came during the Lynx’ 97-92 victory against Washington on July 26 when she finished with a season-high 26 points on 11-of-14 from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line, while adding five rebounds, four assists. McBride became the seventh Lynx player to finish a game with 25+ points/5+ rebounds with 11+ field goals made and 4+ three-point field goals made.

Signed as a free agent in 2021, McBride has played three seasons in a Lynx uniform, amassing 1,351 points, 317 rebounds, 215 assists and 103 steals. The Erie, PA. native, has played in 99 games (all starts) for Minnesota and within Lynx all-time franchise rankings, ranks 11th in points (1,351), 14th in steals (103), sixth in three-point field goals made (186) and first in free throw percentage (89.6% on 259-of-289). 

In 10 seasons in the WNBA with San Antonio, Las Vegas and Minnesota, McBride has totaled 4,209 points, 986 rebounds, 676 assists and 318 steals in 294 games (291 starts). She tallied her 4,000th career point on July 30, 2023 at the Connecticut Sun and connected on her 500th career three-point field goal on Aug. 24, 2023 in Dallas, becoming only the 17th player in league history to reach this mark. She currently stands 16th all-time in the WNBA three-point field goals made (509).  

The Lynx will finish the regular season this weekend with a matchup today at the Chicago Sky at 7:00 p.m. CT. This will be followed by the last regular-season contest in Indiana at 1:00 p.m. ET. WNBA Playoffs will begin next week and information for post-season game tickets will be available in the days leading up.
