Lynx Forward Maya Moore Named Western Conference Player of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore the Western Conference Player of the Week for games played May 30 through June 5. The Player of the Week award is Moore’s second of the season and the 16th of her career.

The Lynx went 2-0 over the week to extend their season-opening winning streak to seven games and remain tied with Los Angeles atop the Western Conference. Over the two games played in the week, Moore averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds.

The sixth-year pro from the University of Connecticut tallied a game-high 25 points on May 31 against the New York Liberty to help the Lynx notch their first win at Madison Square Garden since 2010. In the 79-69 win, Moore also registered six rebounds, three assists and shot 52.6% (10-of-19) from the field. Later in the week, Moore tallied 13 points, six assists and four rebounds in Minnesota’s 80-63 victory against Dallas on June 4. The assist total marked her fourth game with 6+ assists this season. She currently ranks second in scoring (21.0 ppg), third in assists (5.4 apg), ninth in FG accuracy (52.9%) and 14th in blocks (1.00 bpg).

On June 3, Moore was named WNBA Western Conference Player of the Month for May, her seventh monthly accolade in the past 10 dating to August 2013. Moore tallied 22.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 5.3 apg while shooting 54.4% from the floor, 40.9% (9-for-22) from three-point distance and 87.1% (27-for-31) from the line as Minnesota compiled a 6-0 record for the month.

New York’s Tina Charles was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
