MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today named Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore its Western Conference Player of the Month presented by Samsung for the month of May after leading the Lynx to a league-best 6-0 record. This is the first Western Conference Player of the Month presented by Samsung award for Moore this season and the seventh of her career, having also been named twice in 2013, three times in 2014 and once in 2015. The award marks the 10th time a Lynx player has been named Player of the Month, with Lindsay Whalen (August 2011), Seimone Augustus (July 2011) and Rebekkah Brunson (June 2011) also having previously received the award. On May 23, Moore was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played for games played May 14 through May 22, her first such honor of the season and 15th of her career tying her for fifth on the WNBA’s all-time weekly award list behind Tamika Catchings (22), Lauren Jackson (18), Diana Taurasi (18) and Candace Parker (16).
Moore averaged 22.3 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds in six games in May, shooting 54.4% from the floor and 87.1% from the line. Her month started off with a 27-point and career-high 10-assist performance in the home opener win over Phoenix on May 14. The point and assist tallies mark the first time in WNBA history a player has finished with at least 10 points and 10 assists in a season opener.
Highlights from Moore’s month include:
  • May 22 at Seattle: Tallied 17 points (7-of-15), nine rebounds and four assists in the 78-71 win over Seattle. Her totals led the Lynx in scoring as well as assists.
