Lynx Blow By Storm For Fifth-Straight Win

The Lynx continued their winning streak on Tuesday night, beating the Seattle Storm 91-79 for their fifth victory in a row. Minnesota remains the hottest team in the WNBA, and now holds a record of 8-6. The Lynx are still in fourth place in the Western Conference.

This game was a lot less close than the final score. The Storm went on a bit of a run late with Minnesota’s starters on the bench, but by that point it was too late—Minnesota led by as many as 21 en route to a season-high 91 points. The resounding win treated us to several season-high performances and one of the best defensive outings we’ve seen from the team this season.

The story of the night was the Lynx offense. The Lynx were led yet again by Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles. Moore scored a season-high 32 points on impeccable 52.2 percent shooting. It was the 21st time in Moore’s career she has scored 30 or more points. Moore hit four three-pointers and added seven rebounds and three assists as well. Fowles also set a season-high with 28 points and added 17 rebounds—another double-double in what is becoming a nightly occurrence. She’s simply unstoppable.

As a team, Minnesota shot 47.9 percent from the field and a phenomenal 16 of 18 from the line. They did seemingly everything right on offense—they moved the ball (24 assists as a team), grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, hit their free throws, and sought out the best look on every possession.

Minnesota’s success wasn’t limited to the offensive end, however. The Storm have one of the best offenses in the WNBA, (they’ve broken 100 points three times this season) so holding them to 79 points is an important statement from a Lynx team that prides itself on being tough to score against. The Lynx held Seattle to 42.9 percent shooting from the field, and crushed them on the boards, 42 to 28. Storm star Breanna Stewart scored 27 points, but Seattle was unable to get enough from their supporting cast to beat Minnesota.

It’s been so fun watching the Lynx return to form over the last few weeks. Early on in the season, it was easy to forget how fun they are to watch. Tonight, Minnesota was everything fans have come to expect from them—intense, persistent, smart, supportive of one another, and deeply committed to winning.

The Lynx stay at home to face Renee Montgomery and the Dream on Friday. Don’t look now but Minnesota is really putting quite a run together. You won’t want to miss a minute.
