OH SNAP:
I will admit it, I underestimated the Phoenix Mercury playing without their stud Diana Taurus and knowing their almost seven footer is still sitting out. Did I think it would be easy to roll into USAirway Center and beat them? No, I understand the difficulty of beating any team in the WNBA on the road. What I underestimated was that Phoenix would still be able to score 81 points on the Lynx without two starters who together averaged 30 points per game. Sandy Brondello was able to get her team to buy into the power of defense turning the Lynx over 18 times which led to 20 points. DeWanna Bonner, who has been solid early this season, scoring 22 on 7 of 17 scoring. Phoenix snaps Minnesota’s perfect streak and has ensured that when they arrive at Target Center on June 27th the rivalry is on! One thing I will never underestimate, however, is the power of our home court and the Lynx fans!
SHOUT OUT:
Our first broadcast of the season went well as the Lynx rolled over the Seattle Storm. At the end of the broadcast we decided we would interview Tricia Liston. I don’t believe we have ever interviewed her before. She was poised and sharp after a game that saw her contributing a game high 15 points. She was perfect from the charity stripe and really a fantastic interview. She talked about having the green light at all times to shoot the ball. When she is in the game she is there to shoot. Sounds fun to me but that also comes with added pressure – hit big shots from behind the arc when coming off the bench. So here is the shout out to #20: keep shooting and we hope to get you on the air again real soon!
SHE GOT GAME:
I’m also going to extend the shout out to Asjha Jones showing us that the old schooler still has game. Jones saw her first minutes in a Lynx uniform in the Seattle tilt and she did exactly what was asked of her. In the game against the L.A. Sparks Jones got her first start and logged eight points and four assists. Surprisingly, she did not pull down any rebounds in that game. In 2012 while playing for Connecticut she averaged 7.1 boards per game. If she can get back to that number or even close with five rebounds a game, she and Brunson would be a tough duo to contend with.
ROCK THE VOTE:
Let the voting begin! Lynx fans I have acknowledged over the years that you are the best fans in the League. Now it’s time you prove that and start voting for this year’s 2015 WNBA All-Stars presented by Boost Mobile. This really comes down to pride and letting our Lynx players know how much we respect their play. Vote early and often!
