2015-16 SEASON
The most dominant player in the Atlantic 10, Jonquel Jones can change the game at both ends of the floor. In just two and a half seasons at GW, she ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots. A 13-time A-10 Player of the Week in her career, she is the third Colonial ever with 1,000 points, 800 rebounds and 100 blocks, and including her time at Clemson as a freshman before she transferred, Jones is a member of the exclusive 1,000-point/1,000-rebound club, finishing her stellar career with 1,249 and 1,041, respectively, as well as 54 double-doubles in 84 games played – good for career averages of 14.9 ppg and 12.4 rpg. In addition, she owns GW records for most rebounds in a game (26 vs. Iowa on Nov. 27, 2015) and in a season (375 in 2014-15).

A three-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection and two-time All-Defensive Team honoree, Jones was the 2015 A-10 Player and Defensive Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American. She led GW to back-to-back Atlantic 10 titles and NCAA Tournament appearances, earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2015 A-10 Championship and All-Tournament Team accolades in 2016.

This season, Jones is the nation’s leading rebounder (14.6 rpg) and ranks fourth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring (16.2 ppg), making her the only player in the conference to average a double-double for the third straight season. The 6-6 forward from Freeport, Bahamas, registered 18 double-doubles in 23 games played and also ranked second in the A-10 in blocked shots (3.3 bpg), and she is a candidate for All-America honors for the second year in a row after being named WBCA All-Region.

A finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, Jones has also been named to the Wade Trophy Watch List, as well as midseason watch lists for the Naismith Trophy and the USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, and she was a preseason candidate for the John R. Wooden Award.

“Jonquel is a unique individual who can play any spot on the floor, 1 through 5, on the offensive end. She can lead the break, initiate the offense, catch it on the wing and score, as well as be effective from the high and low post. I think that’s a skill set that very few other college players have. She’s able to do it in a scoring manner as well as being unselfish. On the defensive end, she is able to protect the rim as well as guard the ball handler, and she can anchor the defense from the front or the back. I think what makes her so special is she’s willing to do whatever it takes to lead the team to victory, whether it be 15 rebounds, seven blocks, 20 points, nine assists – I think her skill set is very unique in women’s college basketball.” ”
– Gw Head Coach Jonathan Tsipis
