The 2021 WNBA season is just days away, but across the Atlantic Ocean, playoff action is heating up. As Minnesota Lynx fans eagerly await the arrival of All-WNBA talent in Napheesa Collier and 3x WNBA All-Star Kayla McBride, the duo is finishing up their European season in dominant fashion.

Collier led Lattes Montpellier with 18 points while grabbing 12 rebound to lift the Gazelles to a 67-54 victory over ESB Villeneuve-d’Ascq in the Ligue Féminine de Basket Quarterfinals on Saturday. The 2019 WNBA Rookie of the Year was an efficient 8-for-10 in the win. Montpellier now faces Bourges in the Semifinal on Thursday.

In Turkey, McBride followed up a stellar Game One performance in the KBSL Finals with 22 points, cashing 4-of-6 from behind the three-point line, to help Fenerbahçe S.K. move to 2-0 in their series with Istanbul rivals Galatasaray. Game Three is Tuesday morning.

Watching from afar, Lynx Head Coach and General Manager Cheryl Reeve believes McBride’s play will translate to Minnesota’s system seemlessly.

“Kayla singlehandedly tried to position herself to do what they need to do, which is to get that series over with and get back [to Minnesota], which is what she wants to do,” Reeve told media. “She wants to win and get the bonus money, but get over here an help her team.”

Reeve continued: “I like a lot of what they do for her at Fener. You should expect for her to do similar things [in the WNBA]… If she’s even close to being open, the shot’s going up… KayMac is just get her the touch and she’s gonna fire away.”
