Augustus, Fowles, Moore Named To 2018 WNBA All-Star Team
The votes are in, and three of your Lynx players have been named to the 2018 WNBA All-Star team! Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus will all be suiting up to take the Target Center floor next Saturday among the WNBA’s best.
Being named to the All-Star team is nothing new for the Lynx’s star trio. This is Augustus’ franchise-record eighth All-Star appearance, Fowles’ fifth (second with the Lynx), and Moore’s sixth. Moore has made the All-Star team every possible year since coming into the league in 2011 (there was no WNBA All-Star Game in 2012 or 2016 because of the Olympics) and has won the All-Star MVP award in the last two games. Only Lisa Leslie has won the award more times (three).
But Moore isn’t the only Lynx player who has put on a show in the All-Star game. In 2006, Augustus’ first year in the league, she led the West squad in scoring with 16 points, and also won the skills challenge. Fowles, too, has left her mark—in 2009 she became just the third WNBA player to dunk in an All-Star game.
This year is the sixth time in franchise history the Lynx have had three or more players selected to the All-Star game. With their three All-Stars this year, the Sparks are the only other franchise who have had three players represented six times.
There are still a few announcements yet to be made as we head towards All-Star weekend. On Thursday, July 19, before the Mystics play the Wings, team rosters (as selected by team captains) will be unveiled. The next week, on July 27, starting rosters will be announced during the All-Star host reception. Both announcements will air on ESPN2.
The All-Star Game will be held on July 28, 2018 at Target Center for the first time in league history. Tickets are available here.
