Rebekkah Lamar Brunson
The 2026 WNBA season will mark Rebekkah Lamar Brunson’s seventh year as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Lynx, following one of the most distinguished playing careers in league history. Brunson joined the Lynx coaching staff after retiring in February 2020, concluding a record-setting career highlighted by five WNBA championships—the most won by any player in league history.
Over a 15-year WNBA career with the Sacramento Monarchs and Minnesota Lynx, Brunson appeared in 453 regular season games and established herself as one of the league’s most consistent and dominant interior players. She averaged 9.2 points per game on 46.6 percent shooting from the field, along with 7.4 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest. Brunson’s excellence carried over into the postseason, as she competed in 81 playoff contests, including a league-record 34 appearances in the WNBA Finals. She posted postseason averages of 8.4 points on 44.7 percent shooting from the floor, along with 7.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
Brunson’s playing career is highlighted by a record five WNBA championships, the most by any player in league history. Four of those titles came with the Minnesota Lynx (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017), where she played a foundational role in establishing the franchise’s dynasty. She also helped lead the Sacramento Monarchs to the organization’s lone WNBA championship in 2005.
Acquired by Minnesota in the dispersal draft of former Sacramento Monarchs players on December 14, 2009, Brunson left an indelible mark on the Lynx record book. She retired as the WNBA’s all-time leader in total rebounds (3,356) and offensive rebounds (1,166), underscoring her reputation as one of the most relentless and productive rebounders in league history. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the franchise, the Lynx retired Brunson’s No. 32 jersey in July 2022, joining fellow franchise icons Seimone Augustus (No. 33), Sylvia Fowles (No. 34), Maya Moore (No. 23) and Lindsay Whalen (No. 13) in the Target Center rafters.
Brunson shares the Lynx single-game record for total rebounds with 20, tied with Sylvia Fowles, and holds a share of the team’s single-game offensive rebound record with 10, tied with Tamika Williams. Her career-high 32-point performance came during her tenure with Sacramento. Over the course of her career, Brunson earned five WNBA All-Star selections, appeared in the postseason 11 times, and reached the WNBA Finals on eight occasions. Her defensive excellence was recognized with WNBA All-Defensive First Team honors in 2011, along with six All-Defensive Second Team selections (2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2018).
Beyond her coaching and playing accomplishments, Brunson remains deeply engaged in the Twin Cities community and continues to be an influential ambassador for the game. She serves as an analyst for FanDuel Sports Network’s coverage of the Minnesota Timberwolves and supports the Lynx organization through Basketball Academy clinics and bookmobile initiatives, further extending her impact on and off the court.
