After nearly two weeks of training camp, the Minnesota Lynx are ready to get preseason play underway on Friday night.
The Lynx will host the Atlanta Dream at 7 p.m. Friday night in St. Paul.
“Just take everything that we’ve taught and apply it. At this point, you’re hoping there is less thinking and more playing,” Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. “That’s maybe a hard concept for rookies because it’s their first time, they are going to be amped-up or a little bit nervous. Keeping it simple would be great. . . Do what you do well, and focus on that.”
Minnesota’s game Friday night will be the first game this season in their new home for the summer at Xcel Energy Center.
“Motivation is a very diverse beast. You can find many different forms of motivation. I think the main thing Cheryl cares about, and we as captains care about, is as long as you are using that motivation to help us win,” Maya Moore said after Thursday’s practice. “It’s about just bringing all you have with you for this season.”
The Lynx will play the Dream on Friday night before hitting the road to take on the Washington Mystics at 6 p.m. Monday in Washington for the preseason finale.
“It’s a goal to get them extended minutes at a time to build their conditioning,” Reeve said. “I think the rookies are ready to go in terms of their energy. We’ll see how we are looking as far as conditioning.”
Minnesota kicks off the 2017 regular season at 6 p.m. May 14 against the Chicago Sky at Xcel Energy Center.
