After spending the weekend in Rochester, Minn., and having a day off yesterday, the Lynx were back in the gym on Tuesday morning with a new, yet familiar face.
Seimone Augustus joined the team today after spending the offseason playing overseas for the Dynamo Kursk.
“I’m happy to be back and I’m excited to get into the flow of things,” Augustus said. “I’m still learning names of the new players, but once you get back on the floor with Whalen, Sylvia (Fowles) and Maya (Moore), it’s just like we’ve been doing this for a long time, so it’s normal to us.”
Augustus averaged 10.3 points and over three assists/rebounds in her 12 games that she played this season for the Dynamo.
The 6’0 guard/forward hybrid has been a key component in the Lynx’ three Championships and she will look to contribute again this season as Minnesota looks to defend their WNBA title.
“I feel great, my legs feel good so, I’m just going to do what I do and see what happens,” Augustus, a Baton Rouge, LA. native, said. “I was at home for like two days and then I came here. It was enough time to get some crawfish in my system, some gumbo, some Cajun seasoning in my system and then head up to Minnesota.”
Although Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve and the rest of the coaching staff won’t have a lot of time to get Augustus accustomed to her new teammates, Reeve was pleased with how the 2006 first overall selection looked in her first day back with the team.
“Really good, I was really happy, she feels really good and when you first get back that’s my first question is, ‘how do you feel?’” Reeve said. “The report from the physical was really good, so I think we’re starting from a really good place.”
