MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed forward Cecilia Zandalasini for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Zandalasini, a 6-1 forward from Broni, Italy, recently represented Italy at FIBA EuroBasket 2017, held June 16-25 in the Czech Republic where she ranked second in scoring (19.0 ppg), third in FG accuracy (51.0%), second in three-point accuracy (50.0%), second in FT accuracy (88.9%), third in rebounding (9.6 rpg) and second in double-doubles (3) during the tournament. She earned All-Star Five honors while tallying 20+ points in three of the seven games, highlighted by a 25-point, 14-rebound effort vs. Latvia.
In 36 Italian league games this past season, Zandalasini averaged 9.3 ppg on 46.0% shooting and 4.3 rpg while helping her club team, Famila Schio, reach the LegA finals in May. In 10 playoff games, she averaged 10.4 ppg (46.9%) and 4.2 rpg. Schio also qualified for the FIBA EuroLeague postseason, where Zandalasini averaged 13.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg in two quarterfinal games vs. UMMC Ekaterinburg.
The Lynx play next on Wednesday, August 30 against the Indiana Fever at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. CT and the game can be streamed on Twitter and heard on BOB 106.1 FM.
