Minnesota Lynx Kick Off ‘Lynx Cares’ Events

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – As a part of WNBA Cares Week, the Minnesota Lynx will begin its Lynx Cares Season Kickoff on Tuesday, May 19. During Lynx Cares, the Lynx will highlight the organization’s continued commitment to the community through programs which focus on education, youth, family development, health and wellness throughout the Twin Cities.

The first event is Tuesday, May 19th as Monica Wright will host a Reading Time Out along with Lynx mascot Prowl and the Lynx Book Mobile at Jenny Lind Elementary in Minneapolis from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wright will be reading to a group of 70-80 students as part of the ‘WNBA Cares’ program. She will talk about the importance of reading and working hard to the group before handing out Lynx prizes and posters to the students. Following the event, the students will have the opportunity to explore the Lynx Book Mobile and select a book to take home.

On Wednesday, May 27th, members of the Lynx staff will be participating in a park cleaning event at Lyndale Park in conjunction with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation. Staff members will be doing gardening work including weeding, garden clean-up and mulching.

On Friday, May 29th from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monica Wright, Rebekkah Brunson, Amber Harris, Tricia Liston and Devereaux Peters will be surprising a group of children from Wishes & More and their families at the Minnesota Science Museum. The players will accompany the children around the exhibits of the museum as well as host a lunch. Wishes & Moore is an organization that enhances the life of a child fighting a terminal or life-threatening condition by providing extraordinary experiences including wishes, scholarships, memorials and more.

On Wednesday, June 3rd from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Lynx will hold their third annual Tip-A-Lynx event sponsored by Coors Light. Hosted at The Loop in St. Louis Park, the entire Lynx team and coaching staff will be waiting on fans’ tables and pouring their drinks in order to raise money for a good cause. In addition, the players will be competing against each other to earn the most tips by signing autographs, taking pictures and waiting on fans. The food and beverage proceeds will go to support the Lynx FastBreak Foundation.
