Minnesota Lynx Gear Up for 2016 Season

INNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL –  In honor of the WNBA’s 20th season, the Minnesota Lynx will gear up for the 2016 season with 20 Days to Tip-Off, a series of events around the Twin Cities beginning Sunday, April 24. Lynx players, coaches and staff will be involved in several marketing and community events for 20 consecutive days leading up to the May 14 home opener against the Phoenix Mercury. The Lynx will also take part in Lynx Cares events in the community, where Lynx players and coaches will make an extra effort to give back to the community.

Event highlights include the following:

Friday, April 29: Sylvia Fowles will host a Lynx Book Mobile visit at a local Twin Cities school. Fowles, along with Lynx mascot Prowl, will read to a group of students and share the importance of reading and working hard. She will also hand out Lynx prizes and posters to the students as well as pose for pictures with the group.

Tuesday, May 3: Minnesota Lynx players and coaches will host the team’s fourth annual Tip-A-Lynx, sponsored by Coors Light. Players and coaches will wait on fans’ tables and pour their drinks at Champps in Minnetonka from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A portion of the night’s food and beverage sales will go to support the Lynx FastBreak Foundation.

Sunday, May 8: The first chance fans will have to see Minnesota’s 2016 roster in person is the team’s preseason contest at Mayo Civic Center in Rochester on Sunday, May 8 at 4 p.m. vs. the Washington Mystics.

Thursday, May 12: A group of 2-4 Lynx players will host a Jr. WNBA Clinic for 40 local disadvantaged youth from a Twin Cities non-profit organization at Mayo Clinic Square. The Jr. WNBA Clinic is the league’s youth basketball participation program that teaches the fundamental skills and values of the game at the grassroots level to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for all.

Saturday, May 14: The 2016 home opener begins at 6:30 p.m. as the Lynx face off against the Phoenix Mercury. There will be a historic pregame ceremony at 6 p.m. where the Lynx will unveil their 2015 WNBA Championship banner and receive their championship rings. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
