Lynx Looking to Improve Little Mistakes

The Minnesota Lynx are 2-0 and players, coaches and fans are all very happy about the team’s fast start.
The talk amongst the players and coaches though is improvement.
Yes they’ve won their first two games and yes they have been good, but not quite as good as head coach Cheryl Reeve says they can be, particularly on offense.
Giving her assessment of the offense, Reeve says the team is, “Not where we want to be,” and have to tweak their shot selection a bit.
“I would say that we had some good shots,” Reeve said. “Then I thought there were others where we were just making it hard, not moving the ball. We didn’t have much movement.”
Reeve mentioned how teams will switch on defense and alter ball movement for them, but said their ability to adjust will be a factor in future success.
“Phoenix is going to switch. L.A is going to switch. We’ve got to be able to play all different styles, and that was the focus today.”
The other area in which the Lynx are looking to improve is turnovers.
The team is averaging 15 turnovers through their first two games and that is one statistic that must improve. Guard Lindsay Whalen said that starts with her.
The Indiana game, we had a lot of turnovers, starting with me, so we’re always working to get better.”
Forward Maya Moore noted that despite the many seasons that the players have spent together now, they haven’t played together all offseason and have to get their rhythm again; such a rhythm will help to reduce the number of turnovers.
“We know where each other likes the ball and where we like the ball, but at the same time, it’s still a process…We’re still working out those kinks as far as where we’re going to be in kind of our offensive set with penetrating and kicking.”
Moore also made sure to point out the importance of spacing to their offense, something she herself would like to correct.
“I know, I’m definitely one of those people that is always wanting to go to the ball just to be there and make a play, but having that balance, being patient and waiting and getting my timing of when I do flash to the ball. It’s really really effective when we have good spacing and timing, which is why we practice.”
The Lynx will practice again Wednesday before playing Seattle in the Target Center on Thursday night.
QUICK HITS
Reeve said that guard Monica Wright is close to returning to the lineup after missing the first two games with a calf strain, but that they wouldn’t rush her back.
“Right when we’re getting ready to play Thursday, we’ll see how it feels, but I think we’re going to be cautious. We have to get through this without having a setback that keeps her out longer.”
