During Tuesday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury, the Lynx honor Inspiring Woman Fartun Osman.
Originally from Somalia, Osman was both a national basketball player and a runner. After moving to the United States in the ‘90s, Osman volunteered with multiple organizations: the Minnesota Thunder, Somali youth development, recreation centers and the Somali American Peace Council.
In 2004, Osman took it upon herself to start her own program- Somali Girls Rock, a club that promotes hard work both on and off the field all the while counseling girls to become leaders in the community.
In 2011, Osman received the Virginia McKnight Binger Award- an unsung hero award for human services, and last month was honored by the Positive Coaching Alliance with the Coach of the Year Award.
Congratulations to Fartun Osman on her amazing accomplishments.
