Inspiring Women Series | Andrea Jenkins

The Lynx have made plenty of history in their 20 years in the WNBA.

But they’ve also recognized history.

On June 16 while the team and fans celebrated their annual Pride Night, the team honored Andrea Jenkins. Jenkins is the first African American openly transgender woman to be elected in office in the United States. She’s currently serving on the Minneapolis City Council representing Ward 8.

Jenkins is also the curator of the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota’s Jean-Nickolaus Tretter Collection in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender studies. She holds a Master’s Degree in both community development and creative writing to go with a Bachelor’s Degree in human services.

Vice President of Lynx Business Operations, Carley Knox, presented Jenkins with a team-signed basketball.
