In the midst of a season-long three-game road trip, the Minnesota Lynx have already experienced one wild week.
Minnesota will wrap up an eight day road trip on Wednesday night when take on the Indiana Fever in Indiana.
The start of the road trip to this point? Well, let’s just say it was unlike anything else the Lynx have experienced this season.
The wild week actually began before the Lynx even left Minneapolis last Thursday. As they planned on taking off to head to San Antonio for the first game that morning, until they got word that their flight was delayed six hours.
“We were supposed to leave at 7 a.m. from Minnesota and we get a text saying our flight is six hours delayed. That was the good part of the trip, I was thinking this is starting out great because I thought I had to get up and it was like a two-hour delay in school,” Lynx guard Renee Montgomery joked. “I got three more hours of sleep, so I was happy about that part.
“But I had no clue what was coming next.”
If you have watched the news lately, you know what ended up coming next for the Lynx.
Minnesota’s first game of the trip against San Antonio on Friday, which was supposed to be a 7 p.m. start, ended up being moved ahead one hour to make sure the teams could get the game in before incoming weather entered the San Antonio area.
The Lynx came away with the victory in the game, but the adventure off the court continued. They immediately left to escape Hurricane Harvey, which was beginning to barge into the area.
“We went to San Antonio and found out that Hurricane Harvey wanted to party with us, but we didn’t want to party,” Montgomery said. “So we got that game moved up so we could escape it and go to Dallas.”
Minnesota went on to take a 5 1/2 hour bus trip to Dallas, where they arrived around 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
Later in the day on Saturday, the Lynx had to turn around and take a flight to Los Angeles to get ready for a game against the Sparks on Sunday night.
But the adventure didn’t stop there.
While trying to leave Dallas, the Lynx experienced another flight delay, this time nearly an hour, before lifting off for Los Angeles.
Then on Saturday night in LA, Montgomery said there was a party outside of their hotel while watching the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor boxing fight.
It’s been one wild week for the Lynx, one that has certainly been unlike any other this season for the team.
But after Minnesota arrived in Indiana on Monday, the team with the best record in the WNBA will have a couple days to get back in a routine before preparing themselves to end the wild road trip on a positive note on Wednesday night against the Fever.
“We’ve had a trip so far. . . All that’s happened, it’s been a crazy trip. The sleep patterns are all the way off,” Montgomery said. “I think everybody is just taking things in stride. We know that we are blessed to be professional basketball players, so we can’t complain.”
Minnesota takes on Indiana at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indiana. The game will be live streamed on Twitter and aired on 106.1 BOB FM and TuneIn Radio.
