With the 12th pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft, the Minnesota Lynx selected guard Alexis Jones out of Baylor.
Here are three things to know about Jones:
1. Plenty Of Trophies
During her senior season, she averaged 13.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. During her time at Baylor, she’s been named to the All Big 12 First Team, a two-time Big 12 Player of the Week, a Naismith Trophy Player of the Week, the Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Player (2016) and to the All-Tournament Dallas Regional Team (2016).
Not bad . . .
2. Family Tradition
Jones’ mother, Carla, was an All-American track athlete at Angelo State and Texas A&M. Carla was inducted into the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II Athletes Hall of Fame in 2003.
3. How Will She Fit In?
Jones gives the Lynx more depth at the wing position behind Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen. She should give the Lynx another scoring dynamic and plenty of bounce. Will she contribute right away? Obviously it’s tough to crack a spot in the rotation, but the Lynx got a steal with Jones at the No. 12 spot. Expect her to contribute for the Lynx in big ways, whether that be now or later.
