Maya Moores season overseas is over, but she will be participating in the 2013 Sears Shooting Stars as part of State Farm All-Star Saturday Night on Saturday, February 16 in Houston. Maya will be joined by NBA players James Harden (Houston Rockets) and Russell Westbrook (Oklahoma City Thunder), the Seattle Storms Tina Thompson and NBA legends Sam Cassell and Robert Horry in representing the Western Conference.
Seimone Augustus and Spartak V MR dominated Rostov-Don in Russian League play on Tuesday, dominating their opponent with a 93-57 win. Augustus played just 12 minutes, but scored 13 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting (1-for-1 from three-point range). She added an assist and rebound in the rout. 2012 Lynx second-round draft pick Nika Baric added a game-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting for Spartak. Augustus, Baric and Sparta&k begin the second round of EuroLeague play on February 19, facing off with Municipal Targoviste.
Rebekkah Brunson and USK Praha finished the Czech League regular season on a hot streak, extending their winning streak to six games by edging third place Hradec Kralove on the road 74-67 to finish the year 21-1. Brunson scored a game-high 18 points for Praha on 9-of-16 shooting in just 25 minutes. She added five rebounds (two offensive) while recording three steals. The second round of the Czech League season begins on Friday, with the top four teams playing a six-game double round robin tournament (six games for each team) prior to the playoffs in April. Brunson and Praha begin EuroLeague play on February 19, facing off with Galatasaray.
Amber Harris dominated on Sunday, pouring in 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting to lead Bichumi to a 62-58 road win over Tina Thompson and Woori Hansae. Harris was 11-of-12 from the free throw line, adding 14 rebounds (four offensive), and both a pair of steals and assists. The third-seeded Bichumi (16-15) faces off with the KB Stars (13-18) on Saturday.
Monica Wright and Dandenong swept their weekend series last weekend, edging Townsville 71-63 on Friday before blowing out Logan on Sunday afternoon 100-62. On Friday, Wright scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and swiped three steals in 26 minutes to help give the Rangers the win. Two days later she had another strong game, falling just three assists shy of recording a triple-double in a 15-point, 11-rebound, 7-assist performance. With the second seed in the upcoming playoffs already locked up, Dandenong (19-4) faces off with third-seeded Adelaide (16-6) on Saturday to close out the WNBL regular season.
Jess Adair fell just shy of a double-double on Friday in Townsvilles 63-71 loss to Wright and Dandenong. She scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 32 minutes for the Fire. Adair added two assists and one steal. Townsville (12-10) has already locked in the fourth seed in the upcoming playoffs, but close out the regular season with a back-to-back this weekend, facing off with Rachel Jarry and Bulleen on Friday before finishing the season on the road against Bendigo.
Rachel Jarry scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds for Bulleen as they edged Canberra 77-75 on Sunday. She added a pair of blocked shots and a steal, helping Bulleen hold on to win after building an early 15-point lead in the first quarter. Bulleen is eliminated from the playoff chase, closing out their regular season on Friday against Adair and Townsville.
